Wow, this was a pretty neat program. What I found kind of sad/funny was the first Imam he meet. I think its important to try and have Imams who have some bit of cultural understanding or know the needs of the people of this society. Far to often, Imams are brought in from overseas that don’t have an inkling about what the American Muslim and or non-Muslim faces. It can lead to dawah such as what was happening with the first Imam. He wasn’t able to connect because he didn’t understand the guys concerns or questions because they aren’t used to addressing non-Muslim people.
I totally agree with Sameer. I was cringing while listening to the first Imam’s discussions with Dave. Dave was open minded and receptive to logical arguments, like why women pray behind men. And, the first Imam’s only strategy seemed to keep repeating that Islam is an Abrahamic faith like Christianity and Judaism. Something interesting to note was the depiction of Muhammad (S.A.W.) in the program which did not lead to protests by Muslims. This probably demonstrates that the protests around the world about the Danish cartoons was not against the freedom to depict the prophet, but rather outrage at insulting him by insinuating that he was a terrorist.
