This is a syndrome of a serious problem, not only in India, but probably most of the Indian subcontinent, at least, where Muslims have adopted practices of other religions and local cultures. These bidah can range from the religiously less serious acts of baby throwing to outright Kufr of asking help from other gods and goddesses. I do not know how we can disillusion these people since they are oblivious to the fact that they are practicing outside of Islam and have been doing so for generations.
